You'll Never Be Quite the Same

Earth's gentle hug

My yoga instructor calls gravity “Earth’s gentle hug.” Let the weight of your body go. Receive Earth’s embrace. There are great possibilities here. I’m not lazy. I’m getting a hug, a very long hug. The Earth never releases first.
Earth’s hug isn’t always gentle if you don’t pay attention. For instance, when you think there’s a chair, but there isn’t, the hug might be painful or embarrassing. Earth’s hug can be messy. Yesterday I ate an “out of control roll” from a sushi restaurant. It was covered with roe – tiny, red, luminous balls. I kept finding them on my clothes, like red mites. Earth hugged them all over me.
Liberation from Earth’s hug can be thrilling. On a trampoline, at the apex of your rising, you feel weightless freedom, but I wouldn’t want to sustain it for long. All things considered, I’ll take the forever hug.
